Leslie Shimotakahara

Leslie Shimotakahara is a Toronto-based writer of Japanese-Canadian and Japanese-American background.  Her first book, a literary memoir called The Reading List, was winner of the Canada Council for the Arts’ Canada-Japan Literary Prize in 2012.  Over the past few years, Shimotakahara has been shortlisted for the Ontario Arts Council’s KM Hunter Artist Award and is the recipient of grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council and the Toronto Arts Council toward the completion of her first novel, After the Bloom. She holds a Ph.D. in English from Brown University.
