Alana McCarthy
Alana McCarthy is an award-winning illustrator from Toronto who creates bright, painterly, eye-catching imagery, lettering, design, and murals to help brands, books, and businesses stand out.
An honours graduate from OCAD Illustration, Alana is an expert visual problem solver with strong technical skills. She was the in-house senior designer at Nelvana Animation from 2010–18 and has been working as a creative professional for over 20 years.
Alana has illustrated many picture books, magazine spreads, and novel covers. She has worked with publishers such as Scholastic and Penguin, as well as many independent authors. She’s won two Dragonfly Awards and a Readers’ Choice Book Award for two of her authors.
Alana has had the pleasure of working with clients such as Disney/Pixar, Nickelodeon, Wall Street Journal, Taco Bell, Cadbury, Coca-Cola, Scholastic, Penguin Books, and Absolut Vodka. Her work has been recognized by Communication Arts, Applied Arts, American Illustration, and HOW Magazine.
On the side, she has a biz called Geeky Pet where she paints cats and dogs as pop culture icons. She’s also Iron Man approved—Robert Downey, Jr. posted some of her work to his social media.
