Alexis Stefanovich-Thomson

Alexis is a writer living in Toronto. He writes a wide range of crime and crime-adjacent fiction, including novels, novellas, stories, and flash fiction.

In 2021 he won the Black Orchid Novella Award for “The Man Who Went Down Under,” which after publication in Alfred Hitchcock’s Mystery Magazine, also won the Crime Writers of Canada Award of Excellence for Best Crime Novella (2023). Alexis won third place in the Toronto Star’s Short Story Contest (2022) for his story “The Unfinished Book,” which isn’t really crime fiction; it’s fiction about writing crime fiction. Sometimes he's like that.

His first novel, The Road to Heaven, a noir mystery introducing artless detective Patrick Bird, set in Toronto’s Parkdale during the tumultuous ’60s, was published in the summer of 2024 by Dundurn Press. Alexis’ second novel in the Patrick Bird mystery series will be released by Dundurn Press in 2026.
