David Leach
David Leach is the Chair of the Department of Writing and Director of the Technology & Society program at the University of Victoria. He previously worked as the arts editor of an alternative newsweekly and the managing editor at explore: Canada's Outdoor Magazine. His feature writing has won a National Magazine Award, a Western Magazine Award and two Northern Lights Travel Writing Awards.
His first book, Fatal Tide: When the Race of a Lifetime Goes Wrong (Viking Canada), investigated a controversial death at an adventure race on the Bay of Fundy and won the Special Jury Mention at the Banff Mountain Book Awards. His forthcoming memoir-travelogue, Love & Rockets: Stumbling Toward Utopia in a Divided Land (ECW Press), chronicles the decline of the kibbutz movement and the quest for peace in Israel.
