Trisha Kimiko Chaung

Trisha Kimiko Chaung is a fourth-generation Japanese and sixth-generation Chinese American born and raised in Hawai’i, married to a Virginia-born second-generation Korean American. This isn’t usually how she introduces herself but it’s the easiest way to explain the heart of her writing. She strives to supplement, diversify, and subvert tales of the East Asian diaspora, using the vast category of adult speculative fiction as her medium. Debuting as a novelist is her latest nod to her lifelong obsession of figuring out what to do with the stories we tell (and hide) from ourselves and others.

She used to be a high school English and Speech teacher in Hawai’i, then the national manager of support groups for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Virginia, and is now back in Hawai’i as NAMI Hawaii’s advocacy manager. Trisha also has a BA in English from Hawai’i Pacific University and a MA in Eighteenth Century Studies from the University of York.
